Age: 35
Gender: Male
Occupation: TV Producer

The "Ratings Rajah" himself, a big-name TV producer and host in charge of Trucy's small-screen début. Witness of AA6-2.

Personality: Retinz likes to play a number of parts depending on who he's talking to. Around his staff and strangers he shows an almost exaggerated chill (usually with a cup of coffee in hand), while around bigwigs he's quick to bust out business cards and sycophanthy. Underneath it all though he's chasing ratings first and foremost, and he doesn't care how many toes he trods on in the process. When angered, he's more than happy to put his considerable resources to work against whoever wronged him.

Misc Facts: In the Japanese version Retinz refers to himself as "Yamashino" instead of "Shinoyama", as flipping parts of words is common TV industry slang.

Friends and Family: Unknown.

Name Origin:
English: "Retinz" likely comes from "retina", as in "eyes"/viewers. Flipping his name to "Retinz Roger" approximates his title, the "Ratings Rajah".

Japanese: Following the customs in Japanese TV production crew lingo, you need to flip the names around. Shinoyama becomes yamashino. Kanenari turns into narikin. Together, yamashi no narikin means ‘a swindling/cheating nouveau riche’.

Background: Retinz is a big-shot producer and TV host known for his popular, low-denominator entertainment shows at Take-2 TV. Some time before AA6, he approached Trucy and magician Mr. Reus to suggest putting on a TV special celebrating the Gramarye legacy.

Spoiler: AA6-2
Retinz didn't just pick Mr. Reus to be Trucy's co-performer by chance. In fact, Retinz is Mr. Reus.

Everything begins ten years ago, when the Gramaryes were at their peak. Retinz was an up-and-coming magician under the stage name of Mr. Reus, and in a stroke of luck he was allowed to join Troupe Gramarye on a provisional basis, performing alongside Zak, Thalassa, and Valant. From the get-go Magnifi viewed Retinz with some disdain, and things came to a head when Retinz flubbed a trick and injured himself during rehearsals. Magnifi barred him from taking part in the upcoming show, and when Retinz tried to force his way into performing Magnifi expelled him from the troupe altogether.

Retinz was furious, but not long afterwards Troupe Gramarye collapsed (case 4-4), leaving only Trucy and Valant, with the performance rights in limbo. Retinz spent the next several years nursing a grudge, while continuing to perform as Reus and building up a series of showbiz connections as a producer. Eventually he met a fan, Manov Mistree, at one of his shows, and he took Mistree under his wing and trained him to become the second Reus.

When the Gramarye case was cleared up and the performance rights passed to Trucy, Retinz began to plot revenge. He used his resources to secure the TV contract for Trucy's first show using the Gramarye name, and then plotted to destroy her and everything around her by framing her for Mistree's murder and getting the Wright Anything Agency on the hook for the cost of the show.
